February 17

1) Original Bassless Quartet

Papapcho Sirdey: Keyboard

Music composed and arranged by pianist Papacho Sirdey. The ensemble blends jazz harmony and structures with Spanish and middle eastern keys exploring improvisation, groove, and interaction.

2) Vocalists Lyne Tremblay and Karen Racicot

Lyne is a multi-disciplinary artist who has fostered an eclectic career that touches theater, film, television, and recording. She started out as a professional dancer and has performed in “Cats,” “West Side Story,” and “Cabaret” on some of the most prestigious stages in Europe and Central and North America. She recently released her second critically acclaimed CD, “Get To It.”

No stranger to Mexico, Karen Racicot´s first experience was working for Televisa in “The Shadow,” the English version of “La Sombra del Autro” 25 years ago. Karen´s love of Jazz and Bossa Nova came as a child from her father. She’s been singing her whole life for herself until 5 years ago. She loves to share the joy of singing. This is Gabriel’s piano project, based on his original compositions and jazz standards. He has participated in festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and the Montreal Festival among others, and has given concerts in the original Blue Note Jazz Club, the Blue Note in Tokyo, and in Ronnie Scott´s Jazz Club, among others.

Throughout his musical and professional career as a saxophonist and a composer, Salomon has participated in a large number of national and international jazz festivals. He was an organizer of the very first International Jazz Festival in San Miguel de Allende from 1993 to 2002 as the musical director. Nowadays, he organizes the Encuentro Nacional de Jazz in San Miguel of which there have been 19 editions. On this occasion, Salomon is presenting new compositions of contemporary jazz, written during COVID confinement, with melodies and rhythms that are very pleasant and easy on the ear.

Bobby Kapp has been called a romantic, a Jazz Ambassador, and most important, a master musician. Bobby is presenting with him musicians who he considers to be some of the best young, rising Mexican jazz artists: Patricio Mendez on piano and David Barrera Osornio on bass. This band features an unrehearsed approach to the jazz repertoire, freshly created before your very ears.

2) Los Downbeats

Los Downbeats are presenting a great tribute to three of the most iconic jazz greats in history: John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, and Joe Henderson. They have influenced thousands of musicians around the world and have remained permanent markers in the history of this musical genre. The motive of this concert is to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the presence of jazz in San Miguel de Allende. Salomon formed the very first jazz group, The Downbeats, here and in the state of Guanajuato in 1979.
