By Julia Aguado
“ART San Miguel” is the first contemporary art fair in San Miguel de Allende, a World Heritage City and an international tourist destination. Artist Ana Julia Aguado is responsible for the Direction and Curatorship of the event.
The objective is to promote professional artists residing in our city and its surrounding areas. In addition, there are excellent artists participating from the nearby city of Querétaro in this inagural event. Although it is a fair that is focused on local artists, our participants are from different countries as well—Canada, United States, Mexico, Chile, Panama, Germany, and Italy.
The participation of the Noel Cayetano Gallery stands out with renowned Oaxacan artists such as Alejandro Santiago and Amador Montes, as well as works from the Códice Cante Collection inspired by the Charco del Ingenio Botanical Garden in San Miguel, created in 1997, offered by the Ana Julia Aguado Gallery. Art from renowned Mexican master painters Alberto Castro Leñero, Sergio Hernández, Joy Laville, Pedro Friedeberg, and Roberto Turnbull among others will be on display.
The genre of contemporary art will feature sculptors with differing techniques, among them Alberto Lenz, and paintings by artist Ray Smith offered by Gallery Mario Llaca.
Photography and installation art will include the work of Miguel Loyola; a collection of contemporary Huipiles by Lena Bartula; abstract paintings by Maru Vázquez and Laurence Sullivan; and realism and hyperrealism by artists Ana Julia Aguado, Ramses de la Cruz, and Fernando Garrido. These talented artists are among many others that we can enjoy.
