Even though many people consider homeopathy as an alternative medicine semicolon, homeopathy is a medicine system that by itself has scientific support. It is an alternative treatment.
Homeopathy was developed by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician born in Meissen, Germany, on April 10, 1755. A wise man with knowledge of 11 languages, astronomy, philosophy, biology, chemistry, physics, natural history, mineralogy and hygiene. He shared the homeopathic method supported by science with a desire to find a healing method that didn’t harm the body.
He named it homeopathy after the Latin word “homeos” which means similar to the same illness. This great doctor started to study different aspects of diseases, observed a wide variety of symptoms and how they disappeared with different substances. Studying the action of a plant named China Officinalis, he discovered this paradox effect. This plant was used by natives from South America to treat fever, and its use was disseminated to Europe with the conqueror’s arrival. This plant proceeded to become actual medicines to cure diseases such as malaria, and started to be used frequently to treat very high and unmanageable fevers. Hahnemann studied this plant and started experimenting its effects on himself, who was very healthy at that moment. The result of taking this plant was experiencing very similar symptoms of the fevers this plant was used for.
From this point forward, this great scientist began extensive research. He and his students experimented with a wide variety of natural substances from plants, animals and minerals and compiled all the symptoms presented when each was taken. These exact symptoms were going to be a guide to know which ailments these substances were meant to be used for.
The science behind homeopathy resides in the capacity to reproduce its method over and over. This method doesn’t refer only to the continuous verification of provoked and healed symptoms with the same substance, named pure experimentation. But it also refers to the method used in clinical stages, prescribing treatments. However, the homeopathic method cannot be used in the conventional way, though the treatment will always be unique to every patient. This means we cannot give the same treatment to all diabetic patients, instead, the best treatment for every patient will be prescribed, based on the symptoms every person has, and not only based on the blood sugar.
Today, homeopathy is a curative method used and accepted worldwide.
For example, Porfirio Díaz legislated the use and practice of homeopathic medicine in México in 1895, after he checked the benefits of this noble medicine.
It is a medical specialty, which means that only medical doctors can study and prescribe it (in México and others countries as well).
