On the cover we celebrate with the American community the 246th anniversary of the Independence of their country, we are attentive to everything that happens this July 4th. Also very important this week is Kate B.’s analysis of the water problem in Nuevo Leon, a serious reflection on water management for the entire Mexican territory that confronts us with what may begin to happen in other regions of the country.
How is the Fourth of July celebrated in San Miguel?
The Fourth of July festivity often crosses borders and especially for the North American community that lives or is spending the summer in Mexico. Many hotels and restaurants in San Miguel hold special dinners with fireworks shows included to celebrate the 4th of July, this as a reminder of how they celebrate in the United States, the idea is to «Feel at home». But many North American residents of our colonial city also enjoy having dinners at home with their closest friends, which often include Mexican friends or friends from other parts of the world. Just as many Americans celebrate September 15, Mexicans also join the celebration of the Fourth of July in a show of camaraderie and respect.
San Miguel de Allende World Music Festival
This month of July, 2022, the World Music Festival of San Miguel de Allende is born, and in parallel the World Music Orchestra is created, made up of international artists and residents of San Miguel—including musicians, dancers and artists.
The Orchestra will be featured at the opening the Festival on July 13 at the Ángela Peralta Theater, at 6pm. The repertoire of the World Music Orchestra is made up of original compositions that each member of the Orchestra contributes and are complemented by dance and multimedia. The presentation includes works from classical music, electronic music, jazz, African dance, belly dance, flamenco, contemporary dance, among other styles.
Program “60 Days 60 Works”
This week concludes the program “60 Days 60 Works” that the Municipal Presidency launched on April 26, starting with Libertad street in Nuevo Pantoja’s Ejido. Day by day, projects were started or concluded in rural communities and colonies of the municipal capital. The most relevant were the rehabilitation of roads in rural areas (14), construction of streets (11) and the expansion of electrification (6). Other works that were carried out were the fitting out of several water wells, an elevated tank, improvement of atriums, and sports fields.
Presenting the First C𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨 𝐕𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐦 of Guanajuato
The Grape and Wine Association of Guanajuato launched the invitation to participate in the 𝟏𝐞𝐫. 𝐂𝐨𝐦, aimed at the general public, but especially at producers, oenologists, agronomists, and winery technical staff. The event will be held in the city of Dolores Hidalgo on July 13 and 14 at the Mariano Abasolo Municipal Auditorium. The program includes the attendance of specialists from Spain, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico; in addition to presentations by specialists from Casa Madero and Bodegas Domeq. SECTUR, municipality and private initiative create alliances for the tourism development of Guanajuato
SECTUR intends to visit a total of 46 municipalities and coordinate—through work groups—with public and private actors in sectors or value chains of tourism to achieve a development of joint work for the promotion of the destination itself, by identifying attributes, strengths, and challenges. «With this strategy we will be able to create alliances for a greater tourist projection of our cities and, therefore, we will lead the activity not only to recovery but also to the strengthening of a sustainable tourist economy of the state,» said Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism. Today, SECTUR has detected nine potential segments in cities: Romance, Mice, Nature, Oenology, Spirits, Wellness, Culture, Gastronomy and Sports—all of which promote tourism development by expanding products and experiences for travelers.
