Measures taken against insecurity cause controversy
Recently, López Obrador was questioned about a transitory article in the Constitutional Reform of the National Guard that establishes that marines and soldiers must return to the barracks in 2024. The president said that it is «necessary» to have the armed forces on the streets, as the top priority is to guarantee public safety. «Yes, that the National Guard can be constituted depending on the Ministry of Defense, but that also, in addition to its substantial functions, both the Navy and the Defense contribute and support public security work,» AMLO responded during the morning conference this Friday, August 12. «We need to guarantee public security. It is the most important thing. So, we are going to consolidate the National Guard and at the same time seek (the support of the Army and Navy) in strategic matters to protect the population,» he added.
August 19: World Day of Photography
On August 19, 1839, Louis Daguerre presented his latest invention to the French Academy of Sciences: the daguerreotype, which made it possible to capture an image through a chemical process. On that day, the patent for the daguerreotype was also released, giving rise to the development of photography. Of course, photography has changed a lot with new technologies, but the background remains unchanged. It is that photography has the power to tell stories, to inspire the viewer and, most importantly, the power to change the world. World Photography Day is an initiative of Australian photographer Korske Ara that has grown in popularity and importance, so that it is now celebrated around the world.

Guanajuato’s ephemeral art in Brussels
Guanajuato talent shined in Brussels this past weekend. Ana Rosa Aguilar, better known as Roo, was responsible for showing part of Uriangato’s tradition in Europe. The carpet made by the hands of designers from Guanajuato was exhibited in the Grand Place in Brussels, during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Flower Carpet 2022, which took place from August 12 to 15. What do the municipality of Uriangato, Guanajuato, and the city of Brussels, Belgium, have in common? Few people know it, but both destinations are similar in two ways: for having Saint Michael the Archangel as their patron saint, and for their great mastery in the ephemeral art of monumental carpets. Congratulations @roomente for this splendid work.
FASMA events continue
The Festival de las Artes San Miguel de Allende (FASMA) opens with the exhibition «The Other Look, Six Germans in Mexico,” and the presentation of a Harp Concert in the Main Garden by artist Andrea Brook. This harp with chromatic strings works in a mysterious way—there are 26 strings and each one is a tone. We are inside the instrument. It’s like an acoustic guitar, and it plays like a Tibetan singing bowl. The strings are made of copper, when you pass your fingers it produces a healing sound, the Sonic Butterfly is an instrument of vibration.
For this weekend we recommend: Carmina Burana concert and Unam piano concert (Casa de Europa), Parker Quartet Concert (Teatro Ángela Peralta), and Film Nights in the gardens of the Insitituto Allende.
