By Sara Thorn
Please join us this weekend at Bordello Galeria to introduce Sara Thorn, an exciting new talent on the San Miguel art scene.
Originally from Australia, Sara Thorn now calls San Miguel her home. She has a 20+ year career as an artist and designer, working with artisans across India, designing textiles in Paris for Christian Lacroix and creating her limited-edition homewares and fashion pieces under the label Sara Thorn as well as exhibiting her visual art globally.
Like many of us, Sara Thorn’s passion was ignited when she first arrived in San Miguel de Allende, beguiled by the rainbow colored sunsets, cobbled stone streets, angels, gargoyles and mythological creatures staring down from doorways and water fountains.
Thorn’s first San Miguel exhibition aptly entitled ‘Enchanted’ will present her hand painted ceramic pieces and paintings inspired by Goddesses, wild cats and San Miguel magic. Each ceramic is unique, including decorative artist plates, large urns and small sculptural pieces influenced by Thorn’s first experience of Semana Santa. Imagery of Mater Dolorosa, angels, milagros and a fusion of a fantastical world inspired by mythology, dreamscapes and wild cats intrigue the imagination.
As she settles here in San Miguel, Sara will be accepting commissions for ceramic pieces and offering workshops in her unique dreamscape style. As she has done globally in India, Vietnam, Borneo, and Italy she is now working with local artisans incorporating her design sensibility to the local craft form. Currently, her ceramic pieces are produced by a traditional Talavera family locally. Each piece is unique.
For Sara, Mexico is truly a treasure chest. She is excited to bring her passion, experience, and research to Mexico.
The opening/reception will be held at the Fountain Patio at Casa de la Noche Friday evening 2nd September from 6 to 8pm. Works will be available for viewing and sale Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th from noon to 4pm.
Bordello Galeria is located in the community spaces at Casa de la Noche, Organos 19, just off Henandez Macias in Centro. Please join us this weekend and welcome Sara to our art community.
