At a private event, General Manager Jorge Solís and his work team at Viñedo San Miguel welcomed us to present the new labels they are launching on the market. Five new wines promise quality wine experiences. Under the direction of the oenologist Abisai Vargas, we had a tasting of each of the five bottles: Latiendo, Piedra de Oro, Syrah, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Latiendo is a bright ruby-colored wine that awakens the senses. It is joyful, the perfect bridge between rosé and red. It harmonizes with fish and shellfish, grilled chicken, paella, Mexican and Asian dishes, and pizzas.
Piedra de Oro is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. It is complex with intense violet hues with hints of red fruit, black pepper, and caramel. The wine pairs well with meats and pasta, intensely flavored cheeses, grilled seafood, and cheesecakes with fresh fruit. This wine is worthy of its two gold medals from Brussels and Lyon, France.
Syrah is an aromatic wine with notes of ripe berries. Nuances of plum and bitter chocolate are well-integrated into a balanced composition. It harmonizes well with chicken, duck, red meats, exotic and spiced dishes, grilled vegetables, curry, and molé.
Malbec is a brilliant wine with a plum red hue that manifests intense aromas of red fruits, nuanced with herbal hints of laurel, mushrooms, and berries with hints of maple syrup and bitter chocolate. It harmonizes with red meats, spices, white pozole, roasted vegetables, cheese boards, chocolate, and red fruit desserts.
Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and complex, with notes of fig and plum, green pepper, and bell pepper garnished with delicate accents of cinnamon and anise. It harmonizes with grilled cuts of meat, spicy stews, concentrated reductions, mushrooms, dishes with intense flavors, and pasta.
Viñedo San Miguel is a winery with 52 hectares and 12 varieties of grapes. The team has worked with professionalism and technology to make quality wines and gain international recognition. From November 2021 to date, they have won 17 medals. They run a warehouse of 225,000 maturing bottles waiting to go on sale. They offer the «Assemble your wine» activity for special events or groups, which literally says it all. All attendees have the opportunity to create their own blend and bottle it to take home.
If you want to visit, they offer three types of tours. San Bartolo is a guided tour of the winery, a walk through the vineyard, a visit to the main tower, and a tasting of three labels in the tasting area. The Petriolo tour includes a guided tour of the winery, a walk through the vineyards, and tasting four varieties, accompanied by a cheese board and cold meats. And everyone’s favorite, the San Miguel tour, includes a guided tour, a walk through the vineyard, a visit to the main tower, a tasting of five wines in a panoramic tasting area, a tasting of five sandwiches by Chef Quevedo, and an Italian olive oil tasting.
Viñedo San Miguel has a sister vineyard in Italy, Villa Petriolo, a specialist in producing high-quality wines.
At the top of the winery, with a beautiful view of the vineyards, is the Trasiego restaurant, run by Chef David Quevedo. Recognized and awarded as one of the best chefs in Guanajuato, he recently won first place in the «Pinchos y Tapas» contest in Spain, with the ceremonial taco inspired by Otomi and Chichimeca flavors, such as chili and corn. The restaurant allows diners to taste exquisite food inspired by Mexican culture and the different wines they offer. Trasiego opens its doors from Thursday to Sunday from 2 pm to midnight. You can book directly on Opentable or at (477) 274 44 04.
