Galeria Intersección presents: Yui Sakamoto & Victor Hugo Perez

By Margaret Failoni

In conjunction with the Day of The Dead Festivities, the Galeria Intersección presents two outstanding exhibitions:

Yui Sakamoto: Reencarnation

True to his extraordinary technique, Sakamoto has created four paintings rich in his surrealist vision of the world. His love of Mexican iconography continues to be present along with his ever playful interventions, injecting some of San Miguel’s personalities onto the picture plane. But surprisingly, Sakamoto gives us a new vision into his world

by presenting us with a series of jewels, a surprising group of small abstract paintings.

There is the wonderful color combinations which enrich his work but this time, with loose brushstrokes totally different from his unique, precise brush strokes in his large, surreal, work. Some have the touch of gold leaf found in some of his larger figurative paintings, but although very abstract indeed, are still rather romantic and magical. An interesting offering indeed. Very, very collectible.

Victor Hugo Perez: “Crónicas cotidianas de una bestia casera”

Along with a small group of paintings depicting a woman playing with pets and a very romantic rendition of a vase of flowers, Victor Hugo Perez presents us with an exciting array of pets, some hand sculpted in wood and others in bronze using the lost wax technique. They are so ‘alive’ in this presentation, that they remind me of the animals seen in museums of natural history vitrines. The cats and dogs seem ready to pounce at the slightest provocation; there is great detail in the renditions. We are not new to Perez’s love of animals, with many past shows depicting them, but this is the first in such a large and  exciting presentation.

True to its challenge of bringing ever changing exciting, prestigious and affordable  art

to San Miguel, these two exhibitions join a group of innovative shows for the Day of the Dead festivities and which will remain open to the public through the holiday season and into the new year.
