In an exclusive interview for our media outlets, our expert consultant in legal services and founder of Grupo INMTEC®, a leading company in Mexico and Latin America, Angel Marin Diaz, talks about the current challenges for Mexico and our Northern brothers and sisters, the United States, and Canada.
Carmen Rioja: What other actions do you recommend to streamline legal procedures and provide certainty to foreigners and nationals who may become frustrated with the Roman legal bureaucracy?
Ángel Marín: In addition to the perfect shield and framework, which is Roman law, we philosophically work with another perfect framework, which is the Notarios office. Almost all legal acts end up in the notary’s office, so why not streamline it and make the pairing being like Reese’s peanut butter cups: chocolate and peanut butter together?
Today, it is not that the law that has existed for so many thousands of years is not perfect, but that when we practice it as it was thousands of years ago, the result becomes imperfect. So bringing the technology together with the law we have today is something we are already working on and will soon be offering in the Mexican as well as Latin American markets.
It is about the N.D.N (National Digital Notary®) so that the notarial law is fluid, and transparent, with a national identifier of notaries, and clients with an electronic signature, where you can be in New York, London, or Beijing and conclude a property closing in Mexico with escrow services provided, appropriate due diligence through a certified National Public Registry we are developing, make your will, assign a power of attorney, resolve probate or carry out any other ultra-personal instrument that previously had to be effectuated in a presencial form in Mexico, in front of a Notario.
The most essential act of giving federal «public faith» to a vital instruction or asset transfer will now be a Federally legislated act provided by Inmtec N.D.N.® «National Digital Notary».
So, in the first goal structure, we have evolved how legal service is provided ethically, equally, and economically; in second place is the revitalization and evolution of the practice of efficiency in Notarial law, and now our effort, our laser vision for the future is finance.
Mexico is in its best moment, better than ever. Now is the time to build the foundations from the benefit of the last 200 years of strong institutions and the strength of the Governmental institution of our political system and our excellent emerging financial system.
That is, the peso is no longer tied to the U.S. market as it was in the 1980s. In the eighties, the United States would sneeze, and Mexico would catch pneumonia.
Today, since the crisis of 2007 and 2008, paired with conservative fiscal planning we have seen how the peso became untied after the H1N1 epidemic, and the American-initiated and , in consequence, world recession. There was a stutter-step, but not like before.
Now we saw with COVID-19 a complete divide; if this same thing had happened to us at this level in the nineties, there would have been -I don’t even want to say it- but, civil war. Here we did not lack toilet paper or basic necessities; in other words, there were difficulties but not by comparison because of a construction and planning system that is now paying dividends.
This is what is going to attract the world to Mexico, safe «near-shoring». Manufacturers are no longer going to Asia. Why go to Portugal, Brazil, Columbia, or failing economies like Argentina to shore your call center or your manufacturing?
Here we have everything: we have easy entry and exit by highways; international airports, both Guanajuato and Querétaro; state-of-the-art hospitals; services; gastronomy; legal and financial advice specialized to interface with Mexico legally.
So, where do we see the future? It is in development, residential, manufacturing, commercial, industrial, data-storage (tec.), aeronautics, and space manufacturing without leaving out energy, agriculture, and textiles.
Developing ourselves culturally means offering competitive rates, and previously unheard-of product vehicles such as home equity loans for our guest communities in Mexico, and becoming what financial institutions used to be… your partner in finance, a truly educated resource that cares.
By 2025 we will be introducing Banca INMTEC®, where we will merge the legal and notary parts with finance in a comprehensive advisory client services unit. It will go back to the time when you could go to the bank and ask someone a question, and your agent will have the right answer for you. A model where you can trust your banker in the branch.
The banking system is no longer informative, or transparent, although it sends more information to your cell phone than ever before, and on a daily basis. We are already inundated with fine print and legal policies that we don’t understand. This is why we are going back to the banking ethic of the fifties but with the technology of 2025 and the ideology of customer service.
Like everything, you see at Grupo INMTEC®. While we build with longevity and excellence in mind, everything we build exists in appreciation of our customers/friends.
And so it’s a celebration when you close on a new home, your asset, maybe the biggest one you’ll ever own, or after a lifetime of working in any country or any field, you come to celebrate your golden years with a home purchase on the beach or in an area in the heart of Mexico like San Miguel de Allende or any of the 100 Magical Cities in providence. It’s a celebration; we are celebrating you the customer in appreciation of our clientele. We never lose sight of that, and under our code of ethics, never will.
