After three years of a worldwide pandemic and all the problems accompanying it, we are finally taking to the streets again. There is a sense of normality again that was lost during the pandemic. Although we at Atención are well aware that many have lost loved ones, and that daily life will never be the same, we want to look to the future with hope and anticipation. San Miguel: The Friendliest City of 2022
San Miguel has recently been declared the friendliest city in the world. Our fair city has also been praised by Condé Nast Traveler magazine for the pink cantera façade of the Parroquia, its impressive religious monuments, and its charming cobblestone streets that wind through our 18th-century architecture. The food scene here is also very attractive to tourists. Visitors enjoy restaurants using locally grown organic produce and locally produced wines, cheeses, and olive oil. Cities finishing behind San Miguel in the Condé Nast ratings were Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in second place; San Sebastián, Spain, in third place; Bruges, Belgium, in fourth place; and Mexico City, in fifth place.
Tesla Arrives in Nuevo Leon
Elon Musk, who visited Nuevo León last October, seems to be about to land in Mexico with a Tesla mega-plant. Entrepreneurs and representatives of the automotive sector feel confident about the arrival of the electric car factory in Nuevo León. They expect this will establish this northern state as an important center of the Mexican automotive industry. Tesla’s big move could be announced in the coming weeks. Everything seems to indicate that the new giga-factory will be located in the municipality of Santa Catarina, which has a population of 300,000. Santa Catarina is about a seven-hour drive from the Tesla giga-factory in Texas. Few details have been revealed, but it is believed that cargo trucks will be assembled at the Santa Catarina plant.
2023 Budget Approved for San Miguel
With the political force of a unanimous vote, the city council has approved the expenditure of more than 1,200,000,000 pesos to promote the economy, security, and social development of San Miguel de Allende. Mayor Mauricio Trejo stressed that one of the highest priorities of the municipal government will be to ensure that members of the public are safe on the streets of San Miguel. He stated that his administration will make the investment for security forces to have the necessary tools to guarantee the peace and tranquility of the population for years to come.
Economic Forecasts for Mexico
Daniel Becker, the president of The Association of Banks of Mexico (ABM), expects the Mexican economy to grow by 3% in 2023. In a recent meeting with a group of journalists, Becker also gave assurances that banks are confident that public finances will continue to be managed properly. «The big question is,” said Becker, “when a recession comes to the United States, how large will it be?” He explained there are two indicators that suggest the expected slowdown in the US will not be very strong. The first is the low level of unemployment which is currently at 3.5%. The second is that the world’s largest economy has had five months of low inflation.
Guanajuato Expands its Mérida-Bajío Air Offer
Viva Aerobus airline operates the most modern fleet of Airbus planes in Mexico. The fleet is made up of 69 aircraft. Viva Aerobus already operates eight routes from the Bajío, flying to Ciudad Juárez, Cancún, Chicago, Houston, Monterrey, San Antonio, Tijuana, and now Mérida. The airline, with the support of the Guanajuato Ministry of Tourism, extended this route to Mérida, Yucatán, on December 18. This is a strategic time given the December holidays generate new opportunities in terms of tourism, trade, and business.
