Healer of the Andes

By Elisabeth Möhlmann

Synopsis: 86-year-old Peruvian shaman and healer Mama Irene, whose gifts first appeared when she was only a young child, lives in the heart of the Andes. Brought to us by a filmmaker who experienced Mama Irene’s healing powers firsthand, “Healer of the Andes” opens a window into her daily life as she tends to the women and children who come to her for healing and guidance. Drawing on the indigenous knowledge of her culture and traditions in danger of being lost forever, Mama Irene compassionately treats both the emotional and physical wounds of her patients. The beauty of the Andes and its people further enrich a film that is not only a vital document of endangered wisdom, but also a story about women’s empowerment and a testament to living harmoniously with Mother Earth. Sabina Barach (Woodstock Film Festival 2022)

Born in Munich, Germany, and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Elisabeth Möhlmann is a former actor, stage director, and a graduate of the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York.
