One place recently established in the Guadalupe neighborhood, where the culinary offering is growing, is DeliQ. Located at Margarito Ledesma 6A, it has gone through an evolution. At first, it shared a space with La Querencia de la Chef Esmeralda Brinn, a charming place offering delicious casual food and first-class bread. Above, chef Alicia Wilson set up her Pura Vida Kitchen cooking workshop. A small space at the bottom was called DeliQ, a deli-style takeout counter (without too many deli meats).
Today, DeliQ has survived the pandemic. In addition to having great takeout, it offers a seat at its long counter to enjoy eating right there. DeliQ’s style is known as Global Comfort Food, providing dishes representing different parts of the world. New York Chef Alicia’s background and her preference and love for simple, home-cooked food in small portions are perfect.
Here are three delicious dishes. Miami-style Cuban Torta (Alicia’s Cuban mother’s recipe) is prepared with pork leg marinated for two days—patience in food and in life makes the difference—and cooked on the grill with Emmental cheese, cucumbers, and yellow mustard. Lasagna Bolognese (a recipe from Alicia’s good Italian friend) contains three types of meat, cottage cheese, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese. It is slow-cooked for an entire day to blend all ingredients. How important! Last is Ensalada de Pollo de la Abuela, made with organic chicken breast from Rancho Viejo. It is roasted and cut into pieces with five different vegetables, sage, walnuts, cranberries, and homemade mayonnaise. A great combination!
If you want to bring home something made with dedication, without haste, and with the best ingredients, DeliQ is perfect. And if you want to eat right there, you can enjoy watching from the bar. The ingredients, the skill of those who work in the kitchen, and effort and dedication make this place, which is soon to become a cooperative. They also offer healthy bread, desserts, and snacks, which are first class. DeliQ is open from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm. A catering menu of grazing cocktail boards is available.
