Children’s Day will be celebrated in Mexico on April 30, and Teatro Naku is bringing a children’s play to San Miguel. It is called “Un zapato en el mar.” What better way to celebrate than attending this play with your children. It is a great way to spend quality time with them, and even reconnect with your own inner child.
“Un zapato en el mar” is apocalyptic, dystopian and futuristic, yet it speaks about embracing tolerance and friendship. The seas have risen, and some coastal cities have disappeared. A lone angry shoe in a wooden box, is aimlessly adrift in the enormous sea. A young girl named Yatzil, uses them to stay afloat in the midst of the global disaster that has taken her entire family. The story follows Yatzil as she takes an epic, and amazing journey in search of Naia. This is the spirit of a woman who lived more than 13,000 years ago, in a cenote in the Yucatan peninsula, called Hoyo Negro (Black Hole). The spirit of this woman has the answers to questions about life, and harmony on the planet. Yatzil needs to find Naia, to learn from her wisdom, and gather the strength she needs to carry on.
Teatro Naku has performed at different international puppet festivals in Latin America, Asia, and Europe. It is made up of great artists with extensive experience. In addition, you will have access to a workshop for the construction of sock puppets. The performance is on April 30 at 12pm in the auditorium of the El Sindicato Cultural Center. The play is in Spanish, and general admission is 100 pesos. Children are free of charge.
