Sergio «Checo» Pérez won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Mexican driver Sergio «Checo» Perez did it again in Baku and won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Perez became the only driver to win more than once the Baku circuit and this confirms he is the best driver in terms of street circuits. The Mexican closed a brilliant weekend by winning Sunday’s race, as well as the Sprint a day earlier.
With this great weekend, «Checo» got his second win in the 2023 Formula 1 season, just six points behind his teammate Max Verstappen, in the fight for the long-awaited F1 Drivers’ World Championship.
On lap 12, «Checo» took the lead in the race, after Max Verstappen pitted. An unexpected «Safety Car,» after Nyck de Vries’ retirement by Alpha Tauri, gave some advantage to the Mexican driver for the restart from the lead. And after 51 laps and an impeccable performance by the driver from Jalisco, the checkered flag appeared and Sergio Perez became champion of Baku with Red Bull.
The Mexican is going all out for the drivers’ world championship, and his direct rival will be none other than his teammate Max Verstappen, who is looking for his third consecutive world championship.
Let’s go, Checo!
Mexico Open at Vidanta 2023 comes to an end
Besides being part of the PGA TOUR calendar, the Mexico Open at Vidanta is one of the most important sporting events in the country, as it is a world-class golf tournament, and the world’s best golfers come to our country.
Among the best golfers attending the Mexico Open was the world’s number one, Jon Rahm from Spain, who defended his title in our country after being proclaimed champion in the first edition of the tournament in 2022.
In the fight for the championship of the Mexico Open were the Spanish Jon Rahm, who started as a favorite, and the American Tony Finau, who had been playing brilliantly. They took the fight for the championship to the limit, where the American took away Rahm’s chance to be crowned again in Mexico.
With an impeccable pace from start to finish, Tony Finau becomes the champion of the Mexico Open at Vidanta 2023, finishing with 24 strokes under par.
Mexico always has the best events!
The «Regular Phase» of Liga MX comes to an end
The regular phase of Liga MX came to an end, and now the teams are preparing for the so famous «liguilla.»
We witnessed one of the best Liga Mx tournaments in recent years, a very competitive tournament, full of surprises, with lots of goals and, what you can’t miss in Mexican soccer, a lot of controversy.
Monterrey was undoubtedly the best team in the tournament, finishing as leader of the competition with 40 points. This team is the favorite to become the league champion. Following Monterrey with 34 points, América finished as runner-up in Liga MX, after a great tournament and is now a serious candidate for the title under the leadership of «Tano» Ortiz.
Chivas surprised everyone with the arrival of Paunovic and Fernando Hierro, but they managed to finish third in the general table with the same points as América (34), thus achieving their best season in 10 years.
Toluca was fourth in the general table, under the leadership of «Nacho» Ambriz, and without so much attention, but it is undoubtedly a serious candidate for the title, after obtaining 32 points.
The playoff qualifiers were Pachuca (5th), León (6th), Tigres (7th), Cruz Azul (8th), Atlas (9th), Puebla (11th), Atlético San Luis (12th), and Santos (13th).
*Querétaro finished in 10th place but did not advance to the playoffs after finishing in last place in the percentage table. That is why Santos advances.
And finally, Pumas (14th), Tijuana (15th), Juárez (16th), Necaxa (17th), and Mazatlán (18th) were eliminated from the tournament.
Who will be the champion of Mexican soccer?
Mexican final in the Dutch Cup
We had a very Mexican final in the Dutch Cup. Erick Gutiérrez’s PSV defeated Edson Álvarez and Jorge Sánchez’s Ajax on penalties.
PSV started the match with a goal by Jarran Branthwaite at minute 42. It was not until minute 67 that Thorgan Hazard scored the equalizer for the Amsterdam team.
The match would be decided in the penalty shootout, where Edson Álvarez missed the penalty, which meant the championship for their rival PSV.
For the second consecutive year, Erick Gutiérrez’s team is crowned cup champion against its fierce rival Ajax, and the Mexican footballer now has four titles in Dutch soccer.
Congratulations, «Guti»!
