Pollination is a fundamental process for the survival of ecosystems, almost 90% of flowering plants depend on pollination to reproduce. Likewise, 75% of the world’s food crops depend to some extent on pollination as do 35% of the world’s agricultural land.
Pollinators not only contribute directly to food security, but also are indispensable for conserving biodiversity. For this reason and to raise awareness about their importance, the threats they face, and their contribution to sustainable development, the United Nations declared May 20 as World Bee Day with the main objective of protecting them and other pollinators so that they can contribute significantly to solving the problems related to food supply in the world and mitigate hunger in developing countries.
In San Miguel de Allende we have the Honey Museum, located within the Rancho Tierra y Amor created as an educational space for children and adults dedicated to disseminate and instill a genuine interest in the conservation and defense of bees through environmental education, promoting coexistence with them in their natural environment, and relating consciously in their ecosystem—thereby also seeking to bring new generations closer to nature and responsible consumption.
As part of the commemoration of World Bee Day, the celebration of the first anniversary of the Honey Museum will also take place with the presence of important speakers such as Professor Omar Zamora and Arturo Islas Allende, environmentalist and renowned content creator, all this on May 20, at 11am, within the facilities of the Rancho Tierra y Amor located on the San Miguel-Dolores Hidalgo Highway, km 13, Atotonilco.
