The Four Of Sports

Mexico takes the gold medal at the synchronized swimming World Cup

After receiving no support from the National Sports Commission (CONADE), the Mexican synchronized swimming team was crowned world champion in Egypt.

Since the Mexican Government and CONADE, led by Ana Gabriela Guevara, refused to support the swimmers, they had to sell their swimsuits and ask for support from Mexican businessmen. Carlos Slim and Arturo Elias Ayub were the ones who gave their support and managed to raise a total of 900 thousand pesos to help the team to make the trip to Egypt.

With an incredible routine to the rhythm of the song «Don’t Stop Me Now» by the British group Queen, the Mexican swimmers obtained a score of 270.1584, beating the Italians who obtained 268.8417, and France, 253.5312.

The Mexican team is made up of Nuria Diosdado, Joana Jiménez, Regina Alférez, Jessica Sobrino, Glenda Inzunza, Samanta Rodríguez, Daniela Estrada, Pamela Toscano, Itzamary González, and Fernanda Arellano, who showed us that, despite the obstacles, we must never stop fighting to achieve our dreams.

They put Mexico’s name at the top. Congratulations, Mexicans!

Santiago Giménez and Orbelin Pineda are champions in Europe

Santiago Giménez and Feyenoord are champions of the Eredivisie. The Mexican player made history in the Netherlands, winning the league title in his first season with the Dutch club.

After a six-year drought, Feyenoord was crowned Eredivisie champion on matchday 32, with a 3-0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles, including a goal by «Santi» Giménez. The 22-year-old Mexican is having a spectacular season and is already the Mexican player with the most goals in his first season in the «old continent.»

On the other hand, Mexican player Orbelin Pineda was also crowned champion in Europe, with AEK Athens in the Greek Super League.

With a 4-0 home victory over Volos NFC, including a goal by the Mexican player, AEK Athens, coached by an old acquaintance of Mexican soccer, Matías Almeyda (last champion coach with Chivas), was crowned champion of Greece in front of its fans.

The Matías Almeyda-Orbelin Pineda duo reminded us of that Liga MX title they won with Guadalajara in 2017 against Tigres.

Proud of you, Mexicans!

FC Barcelona are La Liga champions!

The team led by Xavi Hernandez was consecrated as champion of Spain for the first time since 2019 with a 4-2 victory in the Catalan derby on matchday 34.

With four rounds remaining and 85 points in the overall standings, Barcelona players are mathematically the new kings of Spain’s La Liga, more than 10 points clear of runner-up Real Madrid.

This is the second trophy for Xavi Hernández as coach of the Blaugrana team, who took over the reins of the club at one of the most complicated moments in its history and has gradually pulled it through.

While the «culés» were celebrating their 27th La Liga title on the field of their archrivals, hundreds of «blanquiazules ultras» (Espanyol fans) invaded the field to end the «culés» celebration and attack the players. Fortunately, it did not escalate, and the Barcelona players were escorted to the dressing room, where they continued their celebration.

Xavi’s FC Barcelona has been demonstrating that it is back and will fight for every title in the campaign, seeking to return to what it was before, a team to be feared and to return to the pursuit of European glory.

The «Xavineta» has already started!

Remembering Antonio «La Tota» Carbajal

The legendary Mexican goalkeeper Antonio «La Tota» Carbajal passed away on May 9 at the age of 93 in León, Guanajuato.

The news shocked the soccer world, as the Mexican goalkeeper left a great legacy in world soccer. «La Tota» Carbajal was the first player to play in five World Cups (Brazil 1950, Switzerland 1954, Sweden 1958, Chile 1962, and England 1966), and he did so proudly wearing the «El Tri» jersey.

He was formed in Club Oviedo and made his debut in 1948 with Real Club España, a club with which he played for two years, later representing the «panzas verdes» of León from 1950 to 1966, and becoming an idol in the Emerald Club.

With León, he won two league titles in the 1951/52 and 1955/56 seasons and a cup title in the 1957/58 season.

The historic goalkeeper will always be remembered for being an idol in the Mexican National Team, known worldwide as «El Cinco Copas» and for the great legacy he left in Mexican soccer, being a star in the decade of the 50s.

Rest in peace, Antonio «La Tota» Carbajal!
