Last week, I teased the idea of asking ChatGPT to write my column. I asked the chatbot to show me what it could do. Here is its answer when I asked ChatGPT to explain itself:
“ChatGPT is an AI chatbot created by OpenAI that was trained on a massive dataset of text to generate human-like responses to prompts. It was released in November 2022 and has been all the rage since then. ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool driven by AI technology that allows you to have human-like conversations and much more with the chatbot. The language model can answer questions and assist you with tasks like composing emails, essays, and code. ChatGPT is an algorithmic AI chat system trained on a massive collection of internet-based resources…”
I interrupted that response to fine-tune the question. This time, I asked the chatbot to write an explanation of ChatGPT in terms that school-age children were more likely to understand:
“ChatGPT is an AI language model that can be used by kids to learn new things, including coding concepts. It was launched by OpenAI in November 2022. ChatGPT is a computer program that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to generate text. It gathers large amounts of data from the internet to create responses on demand. ChatGPT is unique because its answers are in conversational format, similar to how people write and speak.
“ChatGPT can help kids improve their language skills and develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity skills. It provides a personalized learning experience that adapts to a kid’s learning style, interests, and pace. Additionally, ChatGPT is available 24/7, making learning accessible anytime.
“While ChatGPT doesn’t have an inbuilt kid mode, a basic ‘kid mode’ can be activated by using specific prompts. ChatGPT is designed for general communication purposes and does not have any content that is specifically unsuitable for children.
