Definition

Ardha means half. Chandra Luna. The posture resembles a crescent, hence its name.

Technique

You can use the wall to keep your balance. Transition in stages from Utthita Trikonasana by bending the lead knee, placing the tips of the fingers about a foot from the lead foot (on the ground or on a block), sliding the back foot closer to the lead foot until all the weight is transferred to the lead foot. Front foot and hand, then slowly begin to straighten the front leg while keeping the rear hip rotated and fully open.

Technique Recommendations

Maintain external rotation of the hips during the transition; do not let the supported foot turn inwards; extend the raised leg straight back from the hip; radiate from the abdomen through the legs and spine, and from the center of the heart through the fingertips.
