A Theatrical Event Sure to Win Your Heart

By Joseph Bennett

Last year, when award-winning “Out of The Blue” premiered in San Miguel, we had no idea how audience members would respond to this unique theatrical experience. It’s mostly a one-man show about Eli’s cancer healing-journey: learning to make peace with his past as a gay kid on a quest for love. And it’s a musical, to boot! Would anybody even show up?

Well, we’re thrilled to say that international audiences in Mexico, the U.S., and even Ukraine have loved the sold-out shows, gracing us with deeply moving standing ovations, rave reviews, engaging talkbacks, multiple nominations by Broadway World Los Angeles, and winner of the prestigious Encore Producer’s Award at The Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Infused with humor and original music, “Out of the Blue–A Miraculous Musical” is a heart-warming and inspiring true story of hope and resilience in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Playing nearly 25 characters—and joined by yours truly on stage for a bit—Eli takes the audience on an intimate ride filled with love, laughter, heartache, and miracles in this bite-size, mini-Broadway show.

San Diego’s Emmy Award-winning theater critic, Pat Launer, wrote, «As a theater critic for over 30 years, never has a piece of theater so affected me personally. It’s relentlessly charming and delightful…full of heart, humor, and hope.”

Audience members have shared: “A triumph!” “A tour de force new musical!”

“Beautifully sung and cleverly staged.” “The music is delightful and creative; the story is hugely entertaining.” “A courageous, joyous ride!”

Yes, all of that praise is incredibly rewarding for an artist. Yet, more than rave reviews, awards, and nominations, Eli and I couldn’t be more grateful for the beautiful support that has come from so many folks, especially in San Miguel, to make this creative endeavor a reality—from financial donations to wonderful audiences at live performances and online shows.

What we’ve discovered is that, though the story is deeply personal in nature, the themes presented are quite universal, and audiences—whether young or old, gay or straight, friends or strangers—have been truly affected by it. And that’s what matters most.

We invite you to join us to celebrate the first anniversary of “Out of The Blue’s” world premiere. Whether or not you’ve seen the show, come relive the excitement of last year’s opening night as we present a unique blend of high-quality video, shown on a large movie screen, and a delightful live performance surprise we know you’ll love. You’re welcome to stay for a brief talkback afterward (our favorite part) to connect with us and talk about some of the moving themes presented in the show.
