The Raíz de Piedra (Art of the Earth) gallery was born with the intention of highlighting the richness and beauty of natural Mexican stone products, especially “exotic stone” as local stonemasonry artisans call it.
Mexico is recognized worldwide for its natural wealth and variety of volcanic stones: limestone, mineralized stone, and quarry stone, among others. It is one of the first places to export onyx, quartz, quartzite, acerina, geodes, marble, and fossils.
Spectacular materials from the stone quarries in the center and west of the country were being discarded and sold abroad. Many of the materials returned to Mexico were transformed into products whose value was multiplied.
Taking advantage of the skill of Mexican artisans and adding Mexican design and creativity, the task was to develop uniquely decorated works in Mexico, treating the stones as natural works of art whose roots come from the bowels of our land.
Creating the concept “Art of the Earth,” we transform the natural stone, maintaining its essence and providing it with design and lighting. This gives it transparency, depth, and a specialness, making it worthy of decorating the walls, tables, houses, and gardens of the most demanding buyers.
Our collection includes lighting, organic jewelry, mirrors, tables, and rustic stone. We develop custom projects limited only by imagination.
We designed the gallery to showcase the beauty of our pieces. When discussing the concept, we asked a few Mexican artists to help enrich the space.
Octavio Moctezuma, an internationally renowned Mexican painter entrusted us with the exhibition and sale of the «Faces» collection. These are eight paintings painted with layers of wax and oil emulsion in accordance with the Venetian tradition. They start with preparation in chalk with rabbit glue and then are tanned with alum.
Adriana Dorantes, a Mexican sculptor and ceramist gave us two sensational lines. The «Maíz» line consists of ceramic salsa dishes and botaneros with textures from corn husks and cobs. The «Textile» line of bowls, mezcaleros, trays, spoons, and textured ceramic vessels with textile designs are unique and add a touch of elegance to Mexican crafts.
Mateo Soriano and Fanny Serrano are architectural specialists in bronze. They have exhibited in Zona Maco and have contributed their art, creating exclusively for us the «Couple tables,» the «Round mirror/shelf,» the «Asymmetric Credenza,» and the «Wong of Wall.»
Paula Arispe, a Mexican sculptor, has contributed the game «Masks, eyes of the soul, lamps, glass cloth, and the sculpture «Communication in Motion.» These are among other pieces that complement our space, giving it warmth and variety.
Glenda Hecksher, a successful large-format Mexican sculptor, brought us four masterpieces in Carrara marble, nickel-plated bronze, and ceramics. Her themes speak of Mexican women who express their feelings through love.
With these artists, a very Mexican, harmonious, and differentiated space has formed. Energy flows positively, and people enjoy this.
We selected San Miguel de Allende as the headquarters of Raíz de Piedra because it is a place where the melding of art and design is the order of the day. It is a natural environment of millennial tradition that allows the visitor enjoyment and happiness.
The Raíz de Piedra logo is inspired by the outline of San Miguel de Allende and represents the organic natural fluidity that “Raiz de Piedra” has.
unique pieces we want to share with San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and the world.
