These month of March, Casa de Europa in Mexico organizes the exhibition “Assemblages in a Free Poetic and Symbolic Fantasy “, by the belgian artist Catherine Caba, with the participation of the Embassy of Belgium in Mexico.
Born under the african sun, on this primordial land, Catherine Caba inherited the strength, the magic, the myth of the black continent. She drew from this authenticity the source of her reflection. Caba assembles a multitude of objects and transcends them by uniting them with each other thanks to her very special poetry. As if by magic, the objects in her hands attract each other, unite, with surprising ease.
Caba is a surprise in the world of art. She creates her own art without worrying about background and uses the most diverse materials to create an emerging blossoming of particular complicity creations, offering us all the poetic and symbolic vision of her inner world. Unexpected encounters. Assemblages in form of surprises. Poetry of incongruity. Magic of connections. Africa, Asia, the Americas, the continents drift and fit together differently, Catherine CABA gently brings them together, like pieces of memories, with respect for their history.
She knows them to be fragile and immemorial. With a light step, she slips into the sacredness of all the memories of the world. The materials collected wink at each other, often they become accomplices. Images of breathing femininity made of delicate allusions, subtle evocations, pulsating work. Filigree allusions, light touches, and everything begins to vibrate on edge. The disparate generates a new polyphony. Caba or the imaginary at work.
In addition to the exhibition of the Belgian artist Catherine Caba, the Embassy of Belgium in Mexico presents the exhibition entitled «A Tour of Belgium» which promotes the image of Belgium as a country of comics and highlights its cultural heritage. The combination of cartoons and photos allows viewers to discover why Belgium is known throughout the world for its famous cities and monuments, its landscapes and its cultural traditions.
As a country of the “9th art”, with its bounty of comic strip publishers, illustrators and scriptwriters, Belgium has naturally inspired the authors.
The examples in the exhibition “A tour of Belgium” demonstrate the dynamic of the Belgian writers and the evolution of a constantly changing art. From the original classic albums to more recent publications, we can appreciate the diversity of eras and genres and also the abundance of each of the country’s three regions.
