D.J. Bingham and Chuy Sanchez Return to the Santa Ana Theater

By Dave Bingham

Every Wednesday night for the last five years (with a few exceptions), I’ve been jamming with a group of wonderfully talented musicians who live here in San Miguel de Allende. Chuy Sanchez, Tigre Gonzales, and Huichol Bautista have joined me in a quest to push the boundaries of intuition.

In the tiny confined space of The Little House of Blues we have developed a sound of our own that’s steeped in Blues, Rock ‘n Roll, and Reggae, but still reflects our own life experiences.

It all started with a chance meeting upstairs above Tio Lucas at the old Sunset Bar in 2010. As I was walking down Mesones Street, I heard some sweet, haunting slide guitar sounds drifting over the street from the rooftop above. I followed those sounds to the roof and that’s how I met Chuy Sanchez. Of course, I had my harmonicas with me and as the evening carried on, we proceeded to jam some impromptu acoustic blues to satisfy our souls.

After that chance encounter it was a few years until our paths crossed again, but we soon ended up playing together in The Continental Blues Band from 2018 to 2020. Then when COVID came calling, we took a slight vacation.

Now we’re back with new music and a new name, MAGIC TOWN. We have new original songs in English and Spanish and some new reggae, rock, and blues that we’d like to share with you, from some of our favorite artists.

Do yourself a special favor and come on out to see and hear us play at the Santa Ana Theater on Saturday, December 17, at 6pm. We will be playing tunes from our new album, “Take Me Back to San Miguel.” We guarantee you a totally enjoyable evening of honest, straightforward, and down to earth music!

Preview and hear “Take Me Back to San Miguel” by MAGIC TOWN, on YouTube. Get tickets at the Santa Ana box office at the Relox street entrance to the Biblioteca.
