David Mendoza Plays American Folk Music

By Lorelei Capell

David Mendoza is a young virtuoso multi-instrumentalist from and trained in México City, better known for his expressive way of playing and touching souls, healing people with his violin. He has played with several musicians in San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City, including English Grammy nominee Michael Hoppè, who describes David as, “Wonderfully expressive violin playing … quite simply one of the most beautiful sounds one can hear.” David has played violin with Hoppè since 2017, both on his albums and in local concert performances.

David is also well-known for playing with Mexican guitar virtuoso Gil Gutierrez since 2015, as well as with Media Luna, the masters of Rumba in San Miguel.

David is a consummate artist, one who knows very well what is happening on-stage. He knows how to move people, making them sob, shout out, and cry in the course of one song.

David was born to play music. He grew up in a family of musicians and started playing the piano by ear when he was 5 years old. He began studying violin at age 7 and drums at 13, possessing a very intuitive way of learning and mastering music through the years. At the age of 15, he entered the Superior School of Music of the INBA Mexico City and began his composition career.
For this concert David will share Latin American folk music, alongside his mother, Patricia Díaz, singing soprano; his father, Ignacio A. Mendoza, on guitar and singing baritone; and his brother, Arturo Mendoza, on standup bass. They will play music from composers like Consuelo Velazques, Agustín Lara, and Silvio Rodriguez, as well as music from well-known interpreters like Mercedes Sosa, Chabuca Granda, Chabela Vargas, and Grammy winner Lila Downs, with whom David had the honor of alternating on stage in San Miguel in 2017.

The concert will take place in the gorgeous garden of the Tres Fuentes Hotel Boutique located on Baeza 7, in Centro next to Parque Benito Juárez. An optional dinner is also available for this concert. Tickets are available at the Biblioteca Pública, Insurgentes 25, as well as in the Tres Fuentes hotel lobby. Don’t miss this unique chance to enjoy these amazing artists.
