“Irregular Nature” and “Escapism”

Casa Europa México

In the month of July, the Casa de Europa Foundation in Mexico is organizing two major exhibitions: «Escapimo», by the Brazilian artist Fernando Vignoli and «Irregular Natura» by the Mexican artist Samuel Pérez, here, at our headquarters, in San Miguel de Allende.

Vignoli was an outstanding Brazilian painter and sculptor, who began his career working with oil on canvas, applying an original technique which allows a perfect balance in the distribution of the elements of the picture, leading the viewer to a unique encounter with texture, plasticity and creation and perfect harmony within the story that each painting narrates. Through a fusion of surrealism and expressionism, Vignoli reveals the lasting influence that many of “The Greats”, such as Picasso, Munch, Miró, Magritte and Dalí, had on his work. The poetic content of the scenes which Vignoli creates is expressed through the mysterious language of the dream, replete with metaphors and inspiring multiple interpretations. Vignoli exhibited in more than 20 countries around the world before he passed away, in 2016.

In contrast, Samuel Pérez combines a natural talent with the complicated childhood in which he grew up, and the urgent need to understand life and to assume it, which awakened his particular sensitivity for art.  His works narrate, in a most extraordinary way, the landscape of the Bajío area, sharing the roots, the values, the philosophy of life of the region with others in an ambiance of nostalgia, almost as if trying to stop the passing of time. The land and its fertility are, for Samuel, both the detonator and the powerful generator of meanings, which are integrated in the identity of the inhabitants of the communities of the municipalities of our state. The artist explores the world with burgeoning confidence and strives to lift his gaze and embody his strong desire to reach the highest level of artistic expression.

The exhibitions of these two great artists will be on display at Casa Europa Mexico, San Francisco 23, in the city centre, from June 30th to July 30th, from Monday to Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm daily.

Admission is free of charge, and we would absolutely love to see your names in our Visitors’ Book.
