Lon’s Bio

By T D Lake

Lon Levin knew he wanted to be an artist by the time he was old enough to walk and talk. His latest work is being exhibited the whole month of July at the Blue Moon Galeria.

Lon is an artist in his soul and through every cell of his being, so being creative is the same thing to him as breathing.

Lon graduated UCLA with a fine arts degree and a postgraduate advertising/illustration degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

In the ensuing years he worked as an Art Director, Creative Director and Illustrator where he helped launch many successful TV programs and Motion Pictures. Among them: Romancing the Stone, Cocoon and Power Rangers, which became a billion dollar property. In the 2000s he worked as the head of the worldwide marketing art department for Warner Bros. That launched shows like “Ellen”, “Will & Grace”, “West Wing” and “Judge Judy”.

In addition, Lon has illustrated and written children’s and “How-to” books including Globe Pequot Press’s successful book, “Treehouses” which he wrote, illustrated and photographed.

Over the past couple years Lon’s work has been shown in traditional galleries as well as online shows. His last solo exhibition was at San Antonio Gallery, SMA from May to June 2022.

He’s been interviewed by several magazines including Voyage LA, Biafarin, Observica, Artonish and Shout Out LA.

Lon has abandoned all doubts about the art he creates. He says, “That’s very freeing. I’m a completely unique being from everyone else so my work now reflects that.”

Lon’s latest work will be showing at the Blue Moon Gallery at Calzada de la Estación 151, is across the street from the San Miguel bus station and then a two minute walk farther from El Centro. This work features three distinct and unique series.

Although there may not always be material similarities between the different projects he’s created, they are linked by recurring formal concerns and through the subject matter.   The subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the forms of the work. Each project often consists of multiple works, often in a range of different media, grouped around specific themes and meanings.
