Recently, the Federal Ministry of Culture, through INBAL, the National Center for the Arts and the Hellenic Cultural Center, published the list of artists and groups selected in the 2022 Call for the National Circuit of the Performing Arts, as part of the Chapultepec Project, Nature and Culture, which has promoted cultural and economic reactivation through various nationwide calls: theater and independent spaces, puppets and objects, and dance and self-managing spaces. This is the second edition of the project, whose objective is to share the cultural richness of our country, through presentations in independent spaces throughout eight regions, in order to —in addition to supporting artists and independent spaces— contribute to the decentralization of cultural capital. Our state is part of circuit six (central west), which also includes the states of Colima, Jalisco, Michoacán and Querétaro, and El Sindicato, Community Cultural Center, the self-managed venue that will showcase talent from these states.
The auditorium of El Sindicato (Recreo 4, Centro), is an independent space in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, with more than 25 years of operation, it has capacity for 120 people and audio and lighting equipment up to the requirements of the circuit . For this reason, since last year, it was the place that received six performances from Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí and Guanajuato, the states included in the previous circuit, in the project’s first edition.
This year, in accordance with the budget increase for the National Circuit of Performing Arts —more than 10 million pesos— El Sindicato has been chosen for 20 performances, thanks to its long history, the tourist and cultural prestige of our city and, above all, to the quality of the offerings this self-managed place has provided to our community. The performances come from the states that comprise circuit six and can be enjoyed from September to December of the current year.
It is worth noting the participation of Mónica Hoth —playwright, puppeteer and member of the National System of Art Creators, who lives in San Miguel— as a judge in the call for puppets and objects; as well as Teatro Demediado, a group selected in the call for theater and independent spaces. Undisputed talents, friends of our community, whom we congratulate for their selection and participation.
We can predict, in conclusion, a closing of the year with a lot of activity in the performing arts. It will be an opportunity to enjoy the talent of many companies that will perform for the first time in our city and, also, the consolidation of the last quarter of the year as the season of the performing arts in San Miguel de Allende, thanks to the fact that places like El Sindicato raise their hands to welcome the best of theater, dance, and puppetry, for all San Miguel residents.
