Whether it’s in the car on the way to work or in a coffee shop while having breakfast, many situations present an opportune time to listen to a podcast. Podcasts have become an alternative to radio programs, which need more broadcast time, and the format of podcasts makes it possible to pause the track and return to it later. Their content is not subject to a specific moment or news, so they can reach a wider audience. Unlike what traditional networks offer, podcasts allow us to be responsible consumers of information: we can choose and view content at our own pace, according to our interests and needs. Podcasts provide quality content accessible to all at a low cost.
In San Miguel, four podcasts are worth following, in my view. All four are produced by women who work and live in the city. They communicate and share issues that concern them, and they interview people who inspire them. Through their podcasts we can find out about current issues, an approach to the Pandora’s box we live in. All four are available on Spotify.
Two Guys in San Miguel
The podcast “Two Guys in San Miguel” is a spectacularly “fun travel guide like no other,” for those who’d like to learn about the magical city of San Miguel de Allende. Given San Miguel’s recognition as the most enchanting city in the world, there’s much to talk about.
Unlike any other travel source, “Two Guys in San Miguel” provides a unique, entertaining, and enlightening point of view. The chemistry of its two hosts, Lon and T, is evident in their insightful, irreverent, and educational banter.
Every podcast spends some time discussing the best of San Miguel food and beverages and includes an opinion piece by one of the two hosts.
Season one has 10 podcasts. All are available on the website, where each podcast includes a short video promo to help the listener envision the audio adventure. A new season of podcasts comes out every three months.
Feminarquia
Feminarquia Podcast, produced by Edith Gloria Álvarez, a sociologist by profession, looks at women’s stories based on real events with touches of fiction.
With a feminist militancy, Gloria wants to give voice to women who have topics to share and to shed light on the daily situations they experience. For her, a podcast is doing radio on demand. In addition to the intelligent content, a great musical variety complements each chapter.
EntreCRUZADAS
EntreCRUZADAS is hosted by theater artist, lecturer, and specialist in neuroscience Leila Camou. Her desire to make her own podcast began in a workshop for young students. Since 2018, she has published over 400 episodes. They are stories and interviews told in the first person, with personal anecdotes. The purpose is to raise public awareness on various issues. For Leila it is a creative space to create awareness about the present. Her main interests are adolescence, neuroscience, public speaking, and, of course, women’s issues.
The Guild of San Miguel
The Guild of San Miguel is hosted by writer and editor Armida Zepeda, director of the International Festival of Writers and Literature in San Miguel de Allende. Zepeda wants to give a voice to people from San Miguel who contribute to the well-being of the community and have made a difference. Among her guests are artists, academics, musicians, painters, and cultural and social promoters. The women and men she interviews range in age from children to adults. Her guests share what they like to read, what music they listen to, what movies or series inspire them. Its slogan is, «We want to listen to each other and know who we are and what we do in San Miguel de Allende!”
