We had already talked about the new project headed by Sofia Rivas and Danilo Filtrof: Complejo Cultural Guadalupe (CCG), an interesting project that consists of three consistent intentions in favor of art and culture: Trapo, gallery—with new headquarters and with more than seven years of operation, Museo Insular, and Perro Fantasma. The first two with the clear intention of opening new spaces for contemporary art; creating meeting places that promote dialogue between visitors and collaborators based on the contents of the exhibitions; and supporting programs with a critical and experimental vocation as stated by their creators. Perro Fantasma, meanwhile, is gastronomic in nature and offers casual food for breakfast and lunch—hamburgers, wraps, and omelettes—that can be enjoyed at an indoor bar or in an outdoor dining area.
This Friday, May 12, the CCG has two art shows in store for us. On the one hand, Trapo, galería continues to question the figure of the art gallery through its Commmuna program. On this occasion, it is the chance to do so in collaboration with Daniela Elbahara Gallery (CDMX) whose focus is on emerging, innovative, and avant-garde art through the exhibition entitled IRRE@L where she presents a sample of her gallery and the work of the artists with whom she has collaborated over the past four years. The gallerist Elbahara and the artist Hugo Robledo will be in attendance.
For its part, the Museo Insular will present the exhibition «Héctor Godoy: The Phenomenon.» This exhibition will review the critical work of the artist and visual art critic Héctor Godoy, who has over 50 years of experience, and who recently began to reside in our town. It is known that while living in Monterrey, Godoy embodied the figure of an antagonist of the art scene, making public and visible his criticism of the artists who exhibited their work in the galleries and venues of the northern sultana. «Dreadful scratches, depressing, horrible. They are pure madness,» wrote Godoy in the visitors’ book in 2007 at the Leopoldo Carpinteyro Art Gallery regarding Sara Julsrud’s engraving exhibition—which illustrates the dynamics of his critical exercise. Or like the banner he wielded at the Pinacoteca de Nuevo Leon, with a dedication to Jose Luis Cuevas: «You paint only small shows.» Thus, with intentional spelling mistakes and that recalcitrant load of sarcasm that makes him so interesting, the event will offer, in addition to a welcome cocktail, an a la carte menu designed especially for the occasion. The invitation is open to the public to visit the CCG at Antonio Plaza 7, in the Guadalupe neighborhood, on May 12 at 6:30pm. Both exhibitions will be on display until the end of July 2023.
