Yui Sakamoto and His Surreal World

By Paola Velasco

The Contemporary Art Intersection Gallery, located in La Fabrica Aurora, is an international interdisciplinary art space that exhibits emerging and advanced artists. The gallery’s approach is based on artists with excellent techniques and innovative concepts. In one of its rooms, they are currently hosting the work of Yui Sakamoto, a Japanese artist with a very personal, fun, complex, and totally transgressive style.

Sakamoto studied art in the city of Monterrey, and currently lives in San Miguel de Allende with his wife and five children. He defines his work as surreal, and he uses Mexican cultural symbols and manga aesthetics. A painter that he admires and whose work has inspired him is Salvador Dalí from whom he takes surrealist elements. Sakamoto has exhibited in Italy and Japan, and he now presents his work here in our city. His work is perfect for giving a unique touch to any environment.
