What three items for wellness should I have with me?

By Edna de Oca

Dear Edna,

If I were stranded in the desert or anywhere, what three items for wellness should I have with me?—Carmen O.

Dear Carmen,

I promised myself that I would always answer questions the same way I would in my practice. So, after reading your question, I remembered this joke:

Scene 1: A plane crashes on a desert island. The only survivors are the pilot and Miss Universe.

Scene 2: The pilot and Miss Universe drinking coconut water and fresh fish roasted in the fire.

Scene 3: The pilot and Miss Universe having wild sex every day.

Scene 4: The pilot asks Miss Universe to put on the pilot’s uniform, complete with cap.

Scene 5: The pilot talking with his friend Miss Universe dressed as a pilot. The pilot tells his friend… guess what, I’m having sex with Miss Universe…

So, the first thing I would suggest taking with you to a deserted or remote place would be that friend you’ve always wanted, and you’ve always wanted to have sex with, and he’s always ignored you. I’m sure that, inevitably at night, with the stars out, you’ll get close because it’s cold, you would end up having sex together. In addition, you could also talk, and he could take photos of you to post on social media when the adventure is over.

The second essential wellness item if you were stranded in the desert would be one of those hats that they stereotype the Mexican asleep leaning on the cactus with his mega-hat protecting him from the scorching rays of the sun while he placidly naps. I have always wanted to use one but had never even thought of a circumstance of how to use it and that it was appropriate. Definitely being stranded in the remote desert deserves that you take the Mexican hat that will protect you from the scorching sun of the desert.

The third item would be a gallon of homemade electrolytes. You already know the formula, the one that mixes two lemons for a liter of water, a tablespoon of honey, a pinch of Himalayan salt (or the salt that contains the greatest number of minerals possible), a pinch of sodium bicarbonate, and a pinch of potassium citrate with seaweed or chlorophyll.

On the other hand, praying would be something that would help keep your nervous system in order; or, if you were spiritual, I suggest meditating and imagining that you were in an oasis under some palm trees while some Bedouins arrive to rescue you. It could also help your nervous system to be in balance.

I do not recommend that you do yoga so that you do not sweat a lot, but I do recommend that you practice the motivational phrases that you have heard and learned during your classes. Definitely being stranded in the desert or in a remote place deserves that you put into practice everything you have published on social media and learned in yoga classes.
