El Unicornio Prieto was passing outside Shaktany, a well-known women’s clothing boutique, when he saw the owner and her boyfriend in a strange situation. He couldn’t help but stop. She was talking on the phone to someone about the security cameras in her clothing boutique, which had stopped transmitting images to her phone. Apparently, her boyfriend was having a hard time convincing her to call the support center, as those kinds of places made her suspicious. It took him two days to explain enough for her to accept that the cameras he had gotten for her at an excellent price were not necessarily of poor quality, and they could only know that for sure after exhausting all possibilities with telephone help desk’s specialized technicians.
When they hung up, her boyfriend told her that, according to the technicians, the cameras were in perfect condition, since on the monitor connected to the security system’s brain everything looked as it should. The conclusion was that the problem was in the application loaded on the cell phone, which the technicians could not configure because the brand’s system had blocked it. She was informed that the technicians would determine how to unblock it so that she could access it again.
Her eyes filled with tears. He, bewildered, took her in his arms only to be rejected a few moments later, as if regretting allowing him to go so far in that paternalistic and protective attitude.
«What’s going on?» he asked.
«Nothing,» she answered, as expected, and continued sobbing.
«But if you don’t tell me, I can’t help you!» the male voice was heard to retort.
«Well, you already had the chance to help me, and you didn’t!» she said, getting angrier and angrier.
The boyfriend asked how things could be like that, since he had already checked the equipment and concluded that the problem was in the cell phone application, which also been confirmed by the help desk, which even promised to call back when they had successfully unlocked the application, this demonstration their excellent service.
She looked at him through the water flooding her eyes, and to everyone’s surprise (except hers, of course) blurted out point-blank, «You lied to me! And don’t you dare deny it if you want to stay with me.»
«In what way?» he replied, already impatient by that time, making it look like she was denying such an accusation. «Why should I? What would I get out of it?»
«That’s the worst of it; you did it for fun! You lied to me to make fun of me.»
«No, it can’t be what you say. Now explain to me what you’re talking about,» he demanded in self-defense.
«You made me buy these cameras that are useless. Then you made me believe they had a support line, which I called, and it turned out to be anything but. I was answered very coldly by a gentleman as if I were mentally retarded, and he said many things that no one in their right mind could understand, and, in the end, he gave me no support at all, and said it all at a high volume and at an average speed of 149 bits per minute.
«Hey! But if they just explained the problem to you in detail and gave you a solution… what are you talking about?»
«Oh yeah? They gave me a solution? In these cases, what one needs is not an explanation of how to fix your technology; what one needs is EMOTIONAL SUPPORT!»
