What is wellness?
When all the above are in harmony. When there is an absence of illness.
To obtain this state of well-being, we need to consider various facts in our lives. Our stress levels, how we are getting and more importantly absorbing nutrients. Our levels of inflammation. Is our night’s sleep allowing us to rebuild and rejuvenate adequately. All of these factors are interrelated.
Most people don’t know how poorly they feel until they feel better. In fact, most of us don’t recognize that fatigue, digestive problems, aches and pains, allergies, headaches, and more aren’t just annoying symptoms. They are early clues to impending issues that can disable and even prove fatal.
How can we address problems that we don’t even know we have? There is an answer. It lies in the revolution that is happening in medicine today. That revolution is called Wellness.
Wellness looks at all parts of one’s lifestyle to determine the underlying root cause of what’s going on in the body and mind. Wellness refers to one’s present state.
While many of us desperately want to embrace that we are special and unique and that what’s commonplace does not (and even cannot) apply to us, we also look longingly for the box to place ourselves in, or the label we can wear and identify with. We value individuality, independence, and self-awareness in so many aspects of our lives (our Spotify playlists, our self-chosen career paths, our outspoken politics, and custom-designed mattresses that conform to the way our body meets the bed), yet for some reason, we’re surprisingly ready to relinquish our healthcare to the conventional or sensational tactic or theory, without more than a hope or an empty promise that it will deliver results and resolution.
We, ourselves, and sometimes, with the help of an open-minded, intuitive and empathetic health-care team, can look at the bigger picture of what’s going on with our health and well-being. Some of these changes may be easy little tweeks. Some may be much bigger life changers, that we need to consider to better our current state of wellness and extend a healthy longevity!
