Last week I had the opportunity to join the ninth anniversary of N/A (Neurotics Anonymous). I was invited to share the topic “Why reconcile with God?” This topic might sound religious but really has little of that. I share with you two fundamental ideas of our reflection.
1. Everything we experience during our first stage of growth marks us profoundly in the development of the understanding of our person. This first stage is fundamental to learning how to interpret the events of life and what resources are available to face future experiences. It generates such a deep imprint that it determines the ways of relating with oneself, with God, and with others. Without fear of being mistaken we could say that the first image of the figure God is the image of our parents. Hence, sometimes the reconciliation with this God image is distanced from a relationship with him because this is centered on the image of the parents that was created. Healing the relationship with the parental image is a significant step in reconciliation with God. Tell me how your relationship is with the figure of your parents and I will tell you the concept of God that you have.
2. «We are spiritual beings who are living a human experience.» Within any process of reinvention or modification of behavioral patterns it is imperative to assimilate the human being as a multidimensional reality that merges with the dimensions of spirit, soul and body. It is urgent for us today to accept ourselves in this trilogy of options and, from there, live, experience, and walk. We are, in essence, a spirit, and this condition makes us transcend any circumstance, always seeking to go beyond simple reality. We are an intelligent reality (soul) with the capacity to elaborate complex processes that generate thoughts, knowledge, and learning. We are a body, a vehicle that transports us, that contains us, essential for the interaction with others, with God, and with ourselves. To disintegrate is to put us at the mercy of a bad process and, surely, a bad result.
The above helps us to understand that the assimilation of this process implies an approach to the idea of God. I am not referring to an approach to some religious denomination. Sometimes there is little spiritual growth in these spaces, deeply frustrating the process of our integral reinvention. I am referring to the deep meaning of your spiritual reality, to that insatiable desire for a search for meaning, a meaning that implies a synergy of dimensions that will be the basis for us to interpret reality from the resources we have and that responds deeply to what we learned, a reality that can be reread from integrity and, thus, opening ourselves to the possibility of new ways of being, never limiting the possibilities and always approaching the image of the true self that we seek to build. The only obstacle is mental. You can be your true self.
