100 Women Who Care

By Susan Page

The next meeting of 100 Women Who Care will take place on Monday, April 17. Most important—we are meeting at a new location. After 10 years of the Rosewood’s community spirit and generosity, they have asked us to leave.

Our new location is a large, beautiful meeting room on the 4th floor of the La Casona Hotel. Please note, this is not the La Casona Convention and Meeting Center. It is the hotel right next door to that meeting center, just beyond Panio Restaurant.

Last meeting was our 10th anniversary! In 10 years we raised 2,910,126 pesos all donated to the San Miguel non-profits who offer a huge variety of support for local underserved communities. That’s more than US$150,000. The winner in January was Esculea de Educacion Especial SMA AC, the San Miguel School for the Deaf, who received a grant of 101,060 pesos.

How Do We Raise All this Money?

Our process could not be simpler. We meet four times a year for one hour each time. Each member (or team of two members) donates 1,000 pesos (US$50) or, if possible, 2,000 pesos (US$100) each meeting. The names of about 20 NGOs that have been nominated by members are placed in a hat. At each meeting, we draw three names. We hear a short presentation by each of the three organizations, and then we vote. The winning organization receives all of the pesos that were collected at that meeting.

How To Join

We encourage you to join this heartwarming group of women and men. All you have to do is show up at a meeting, sign a pledge agreement, and then attend every meeting if you are in town.

Can’t Attend Every Meeting?

If you are not in San Miguel full time, we still welcome you to join! We encourage snowbirds and part-timers to donate a full year’s contribution all at once. We happily divide your contribution into the four upcoming meetings and present 1,000 pesos each meeting for you, with your name on it so you will receive appropriate credit.

Drop Off Locations

We encourage you to attend the meetings so you can vote and feel the excitement! But if you can’t be there, please drop off your donation at La Conexion located at Ancha de San Antonio 39, by noon on the day of the meeting. Write 100 Women Who Care plus your name and the names of all team members, if any, on the outside of the envelope.

If you are a visitor, you are welcome to attend and make a one-time donation.

Meeting Schedule

We encourage you to arrive at 3:30pm for no-host cocktails and a chance to mix and mingle. Joining (for new members) and signing in with your donation begins at 4:30. The meeting will begin promptly at 5pm and will end by 6pm. Even if you are not sure you want to join, you are invited to the meeting to see us in action.
