100 Women Who Care Meets

By Susan Page

100 Women Who Care will hold our next meeting on Monday, January 17, at the Rosewood Hotel. In spite of our name, we welcome men to join us!

We have reached an exciting milestone! Together, we have raised more than three million pesos (about US$150,000) for San Miguel de Allende non-profit organizations that support impoverished rural communities around San Miguel.

How Do We Raise All this Money?

Our process could not be simpler. We meet four times a year for one hour each time. Each woman (or team of two women) donates 1,000 pesos (US$50) or 2,000 pesos (US$100) each meeting. The names of about twenty NGOs that have been nominated by members are placed in a hat. At each meeting, we draw three names. We hear a short presentation on each of the three organizations, and then we vote. The winning organization receives all of the pesos that were collected at that meeting.

Before COVID, we were routinely raising about 120,000 pesos each meeting. With lower attendance during the pandemic, we have been raising more like 70,000 pesos each time. Now our goal is to reach 100,000 pesos again!

How To Join

We encourage you to join this heartwarming group of women and men. All you have to do is show up at a meeting, sign a pledge agreement, and then attend every meeting if you are in town.

Can’t Attend Every Meeting?

If you are not in San Miguel full time, we still welcome you to join! We encourage snowbirds and part-timers to donate a full year’s contribution all at once. We happily divide your contribution into the four upcoming meetings and present 1,000 pesos each meeting for you, with your name on it so you will receive appropriate credit.

Drop Off Locations

We encourage you to attend the meetings so you can vote and feel the excitement! But if you can’t be there or are reluctant to attend because of COVID, please drop off your donation at either the Galeria Atotonilco gallery inside the Fabrica Aurora or at La Conexion located at Ancha de San Antonio 39, by noon on the day of the meeting. Write 100 Women Who Care plus your name and the names of all team members, if any, on the outside of the envelope.

If you are a visitor, you are welcome to attend and make a one-time donation.

Meeting Schedule

We are grateful to the Rosewood Hotel for their admirable community spirit in donating the space for our meeting: the outdoor amphitheater for safety. You are invited to arrive at 3:30pm for no-host cocktails and a chance to mix. Joining (for new members) and signing in with your donation begins at 4:30pm. The meeting will begin promptly at 5pm and will end by 6pm. Even if you are not sure you want to join, you are invited to the meeting to see us in action.
