PRIDE is much more than parades and parties. What began as a protest to police raids and harassment at New York City’s Stonewall Inn in 1969 has become an international movement that not only demands civil rights for LGBTQ+ but also celebrates the lives, history, and cultural contributions of LGBTQ+ Individuals.
Led by fellowship minister the Reverend Tom Rosiello, this UUFSMA Sunday Service several members will offer their reflections on the meaning of PRIDE in their personal lives and the greater community. The music for this Sunday will feature LGBTQ+ composers with Mauro Ledesma as our pianist and Mexico’s famous and proud trans-woman Morganna Love singing «Mírame,» a song portraying the experience of being a trans-woman and written for Love by Mexican composer Ramses Peña.
Pride is celebrated all over the world, usually in the month of June. As efforts to roll back hard-won freedoms for LGBTQ+ people are on the rise, this is a particularly important year for all LGBTQ+ folks and their allies to visibly celebrate PRIDE and renew commitment to protect same-sex marriage and all LGBTQ rights. For more than half a century, Unitarian Universalist congregations have welcomed openly LGBTQ+ individuals as members and ordained them as clergy. Here at the UU Fellowship of San Miguel de Allende, we invite all LGBTQ+ individuals to our services and to find a spiritual home with us. Here we will openly and honestly affirm your unique worth and dignity.
