On January 25 you are invited to join us for the Second Annual Robert Burns Supper to benefit the children and young adults attending EEESMA School for the Deaf.
A Burns Supper is a celebration of the life and works of the poet Robert Burns, (January 25, 1759 – July 21, 1796), the author of many internationally famous Scottish poems. The suppers are normally held on or near the poet’s birthday, January 25, known as Burns Night; however, celebrations may be held at any other time of the year and are held the world over. And this year, with much excitement, Burns Night will once again be held in San Miguel.
Robert Burns, considered the national poet of Scotland, wrote lyrics and songs in Scot’s language and in English. One of his most famous, “Auld Lang Sang,” is sung by millions each year when the clock strikes 12 midnight on New Year’s Eve.
No matter if you are born of Scottish heritage or are a “Scot for a day,” this evening promises to be fun and enjoyable for everyone. Donnie Masterton, owner and chef of The Restaurant at Sollano 16, promises a delicious three-course roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, including a taste of haggis. Renowned Querétaro bagpiper Daniel Negrete will be joined by John Linden on drums to pipe in the haggis with well-known San Miguel performers Marc Taylor and Catherine Bryne entertaining in song. There will be wearing of the tartan, toasts, Burn’s poetry with a fair bit of humor, and laughter as well.
A glass or two of wine and a dram of Scotch whisky for toasting are also included. The Restaurant patio provides great fresh air circulation for your health and comfort. Seating is limited, and those who wish to attend are encouraged to make their ticket purchases early.
Contact John Doherty, President EEESMA School for the Deaf, by email jd98lv@hotmail.com or phone 415 152 0588 to arrange your ticket purchase or visit http://ourschool.support/RobertBurnsSupper2023 for more information.
Come wear your kilt or a dash of tartan and celebrate a wonderful evening!
