Alicia Rappoport will delight San Miguel de Allende with her enchanting new show “Shira: Songs of Humanity,” which is set for its local premiere on March 12. This performance has been crafted to engage heart and soul through the glory of ethnic, spiritual, and sacred songs from around the world. Her talent for weaving mystical tunes with ancient texts and contemporary invocations brings to life the power of humanity’s millennia-long journey to universal connection.
With lyrics in Hebrew, Arabic, Sanskrit, Latin, and indigenous languages this stunning concert conveys the enchanting beauty and power of worldwide cultures converging in the universal language of love, hope, celebration, and praise for the Creator.
Rappoport first conceived this concert as a response to the fear created by the COVID-19 pandemic. She looked back to Jewish traditional music for strength and as a vehicle to restore some of the spirit that was hidden during those dark days. Songs, prayers, and chants from multiple worldwide traditions are her way of sharing hope and joy.
In the artist’s own words, “This music is a portal to inner peace, a heart-centered connection, an interweaving of humanity. We recognize, through the various ancient traditions of the world, the same message of unity, love, peace, celebration, respect for nature, and praise of the Creator.”
The Argentinean soprano and composer gathered an impressive group of top performers for this show. Accompanying her on the piano and harpsichord will be Mario Moya, music professor and composer. Santiago Ruiz, creator of lavish musical experiences with his many instruments from around the world, will be playing a range of flutes from the Near East and Asia. Federico Foglia, internationally acclaimed producer of platinum albums, is in charge of the percussion. Paola Jacinto, a gifted up-and-coming vocalist, will accompany. This performance is probably the only time these talented musicians will perform “Shira” together.
“Shira: Songs of Humanity” is a fundraising event for the Jewish Cultural Community Center (JC3/CHESMA) and will be performed at Calle de las Moras 47 (at Cinco de Mayo), at 4pm, on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
