How about making 2023 the year you become more involved with the S.P.A.? Volunteering for the S.P.A. is mentally, emotionally, and physically rewarding. We tend to bond with our cats and dogs and get to know their personalities, quirks, and histories. Would you like to know about Luke and Luca? What about Salem and Sara? Just ask an S.P.A. cat volunteer and you’ll get detailed answers along with some smiles and a chuckle or two. How about Smoky and Dulce? Or Pammy and John? What are their backstories? Dog volunteers will be happy to fill you in. Amazing how our abilities to remember affectionately minute details about our animals seem to be enhanced while remembering to do a chore around the house seems to fade away.
Dog walking has the added benefit of helping you get into shape. It’s a great way to burn off those holiday calories and increase your stamina. Our goal is to walk each dog every day for about 15 to 20 minutes. We often try to find a stoop to sit on and give the dog some one-on-one petting attention. They really seem to like that and it warms out hearts to see their reactions.
We would like to have more volunteers to spend time with our cats and to walk and socialize our dogs. In an abundance of caution, we still have safety restrictions in place, but they won’t impact your ability to enjoy your time with our animals. We are also looking for additional board members. The S.P.A. is run by a very active and involved board of directors, all volunteers. We need some new blood! Please think about what you might have to offer to help us manage the S.P.A. Being bilingual would be extremely useful but not necessary. Creative thinkers and animal lovers are good characteristics. Time commitment varies depending upon involvement and projects. What kind of projects interest you? We have quite an extensive variety from which to choose.
