It is a tradition in my family that every December 12 we make a pilgrimage to Casa Hogar «Mexiquito» -located on the road to Dolores km 0.3, in front of Zeferino Gutierrez Park- to delight ourselves with delicious Mexican dishes, listen to live music, admire the view of the city from that little hill and eat some delicious fritters for dessert.
Year after year, the nuns of the Dominican order organize this great feast in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe to gather families and raise funds for the home, the first one in San Miguel.
The story goes that before 1959 there was no space dedicated to the care of abandoned children, until February 18 of that same year the Casa Hogar Don Bosco A.C. was created, located on Sollano Street, under the care of the Dominican Sisters of Atotonilco, Guanajuato.
In 1967 the facilities of the current home were built in the exhacienda of «Mexiquito», thanks to the support of Fray José Guadalupe Mojica, a Franciscan priest who left his life as a famous actor and tenor to take the habits.
For more than half a century, this home has offered support and protection to abandoned and orphaned children to provide them with a home, food, education, love and dedication. Without the support of society, this home would not be able to help dozens of children in need, so I invite you this December 12 to the Kermés, where you can enjoy family games, gorditas, mole, enchiladas, pozole, buñuelos, taquitos, fried foods and cake. The Kermés starts at 9:30 a.m., but you can arrive at the time that suits you best. At 8:00 p.m. there will be a fireworks display and the event will end.
If you are unable to attend the Kermés, you can support in other ways, for example by donating money to their bank account or by going to give your time, knowledge and love to the children. You can talk to Madre Teo, the director of the home, and she will tell you how you can help. For more information, visit the website: https://shgmexiquito.org.mx/, or call 415 152 5082.
