Some days ago, surrounded by his loving family and after a long and difficult lung malaise, local artist and activist Milo Gonzalez passed away.
Few people know that it was Milo who in the 80’s created the first environmental group in San Miguel, Madre Tierra, carrying out pioneering reforestation programs in town. Milo had also a fundamental role with the Botanical Garden conservation projects. When these were barely an uncertain idea from a group of dreamers, it was Milo who had a vision and proposed the rescue and purchase of El Charco, as well as land in the Los Picachos range in which forest reserves would become mainstays of the conservation project today. As a member in the 90’s of the non-profit Board of El Charco, he designed and led the construction of the Garden’s dome, which functions as an auditorium and multiple-use hall.
Today we say good-bye and acknowledge Milo Gonzalez as a long-time friend and one of the makers of the El Charco del Ingenio conservation project.
