I came to Atención in December 2003. A tall woman with tousled hair and sparkling eyes told me that I would not find a better place to work, because there, where we were, was magical. That person was Suzanne Ludekens, who soon after that became the editor of Atención San Miguel, and the place she was referring to was the Biblioteca, a place to which I have dedicated 19 years of my life as a reporter, editorial assistant, assistant to editor, sub-editor and finally editor-in-chief of the most important local publication that has ever existed in San Miguel de Allende. During all these years I had the fortune to meet great people — including members of the board of directors, bosses, co-workers, volunteers, proofreaders, clients and friends of the newspaper — from whom I learned about life, the publishing world, newspapers, and business, and who were part of my training as a person and professional.
Today, as I finish my work at Atención, I have nothing but thanks to all of them and to this institution for allowing me to be part of the annals of the history of this wonderful city that has so kindly welcomed me; and for allowing me freedom of expression in my journalistic work when writing and editing the articles that during these years were published every Friday and then every Thursday, giving a voice to those who had something important to say through the Atención pages.
It has been an honor and a privilege to have served the San Miguel community through my work in this medium, and the Biblioteca, with its mission of bringing culture and education to the children and youth of San Miguel.
To Atención San Miguel, all success and prosperity, today and always.
Ali Zerriffi, Suzanne Ludekens, Gregory Diamant, Jesús Ibarra, Kendal Butler, Jack Najork, Pat Frey, Sheridan Sansegundo, Dean Cummer, Debra Broussard, Miguel Ángel Barquet, Enrique Carrillo, Gerardo Espinosa, Leticia Rodríguez, Daniel Herrera, Sandra Suaste, Monserrat Morales, Natalie Taylor, Francine Auster, Noel Soria, Gustavo Ruiz, José Luis Flores, Jade Muriel, Jesús Aguado, Carolina Alonzo, Ana Lilia Ortiz, Juan Antonio Ruiz, Mauricio Becerra, Jessica Miramontes and Fabián Fuentes, THANK YOU!
