Mostly Music: A Celebration of Spirituality and Community

By Joseph Plummer

At this Sunday’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Miguel de Allende (UUFSMA) Mostly Music service, four acclaimed San Miguel musicians join their talents to perform personal favorites–from Bach and Chopin to gypsy jazz and salon treats. Performances by violinist Felicia Moye, guitarist Almitri Tzigane, organist Malcolm Halliday, and pianist Paula Peace will celebrate music’s power to connect us to spiritual beauty, mystery and to each other in our beloved community.

Aldous Huxley wrote, “After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” This “Mostly Music” service will feature some of San Miguel’s most talented professional instrumentalists, and they promise a memorable and diverse repertoire.

Violinist Felicia Moye has performed throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America as a concert violinist. She has appeared both as soloist and chamber musician with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra (N.Y.) and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Felicia was first violinist with the Miami String Quartet when the group won top prizes in the London, Evian and Young Concert Artist’s International Quartet Competitions.

Guitarist Almitri Tzigane is masterful in the Gypsy Jazz Manouche, plus Blues, Country, and Rock styles. A favorite performer in San Miguel de Allende for the last nine years, Almitri has been very busy during the pandemic recording and producing 50+ performance videos featuring solo guitar.

Also, a pianist, vocalist, and conductor, Malcolm Halliday will share his passion as organ recitalist during this UUFSMA service. A Fellow of the American Guild of Organists, Malcolm was Minister of Music at the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts (MA), for 28 years, where he led one of the largest church music ministries in central MA. In addition to solo piano recital work, he also works with singers and instrumentalists in a wide range of collaborative concerts in both the U.S. and Mexico.

Nationally recognized as a pioneer among chamber musicians in the U.S., pianist Paula Peace was the pianist and founding Artistic Director of the Atlanta Chamber Players (ACP) for almost 40 seasons before retiring to San Miguel in 2015. With the ACP she performed in more than 250 cities in the U.S., Europe and Mexico, premiered 100+ works, and was featured in dozens of national radio broadcasts. She was awarded the Governor’s Award in the Arts by the State of Georgia in 2016.
