The biblical Easter story seems implausible to many, but there are universal truths to be found within the story that do not depend upon a literal understanding. The late UU minister, Reverend Farley Wheelwright—a beloved longtime San Miguel resident—appreciated Easter. He noted, «The day serves as a reminder that if we do it, life can begin anew. It is not an easy task… (but) it can be done.”
We invite you to join us for this special Easter service. Come enjoy the uplifting music, Easter stories, poems, rituals, and a sermon by the fellowship’s minister, Reverend Tom Rosiello.
The focus will be on what Easter can mean in our lives today, how we can emerge from the dark, cold, tomblike places of our lives and begin anew. Reverend Rosiello explains, «At whatever level you understand the Easter story, there can be a life-saving message found in it.» The late UU minister Max Coots said, “In us are written…the new versions of the old Easter story, the empty tomb, the renewal. We are at least part of what the ancient myth can mean.”
Easter alleluias will fill the room as we join together to sing familiar hymns. Together our gifted pianists Paula Peace and Malcolm Halliday will perform a stunning arrangement of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from “Handel’s Messiah for 4 hands.”
Unitarian Universalism is a liberal faith inviting its community to gather around a set of harmonizing values and principles for living. Our UU Fellowship welcomes people of all ages, races, religions, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Belief in a divinity is not the central issue around which we gather for worship and generous action. Rather, we come together with a belief in community, love, compassion, social justice, reverence for nature, and the spirituality of music, all within the interconnected web of existence.
UUFSMA donates generously to support nonprofit organizations that provide health, educational, and environmental services for underserved communities in the San Miguel region. Please support this work by clicking on the website home page Donate button.
