Pro Musica Young Classical Mexican Musician Competition

By Michael Pearl

All is set for the finals and semi-finals of our Young Classical Mexican Musician Competition during the week beginning 21 February, 2022.  The 15 semi-finalists will be coming from all over Mexico, the US and Europe to compete in live performances.  You will hear a wide variety of instruments in the semi-finals, including piano, violin, flute, clarinet, cello, bassoon, oboe and marimba.

There are opportunities for you to hear and see all the competitors in the semi-finals on Wednesday, 23 February.  Each musician will play for 20 minutes in the presence of the Judges and you can buy a day pass for only $200 pesos, entitling you to come and go during the day as you choose.  Before the week begins we will be sending you full details of the competitors, so you will know when to come to see particular participants.

The following day, Thursday 24 February, will be the final when the five top contestants chosen by the Judges the previous day will compete for prize money of $400,000 pesos, most of which has been contributed by our wonderful Patron Members. This will take the form of a concert style event at 5 pm with each finalist playing for 20 minutes. The prized include an Audience Choice Award, which you will vote on.  Prize winners will be announced at the end of the concert.

To conclude this exciting week there will be a Winners Concert on the Saturday when the two top prize winners will each play half of the concert. The standard of many of these young musician is incredibly high and the best are ready to take the world by storm with their talent.

Tickets prices are: Semi-finals all day pass: $200 pesos donation.

Finals and Winners concert:   $200; $400; $600 pesos donation.

Many generous Pro Musica Patron Members have donated towards the prize fund, but we are still short of about $100,000 pesos and we are looking for generous donors. These youngsters and their families do not have the financial means to take their musical education to the next level and your gift can make the difference between them having to abandon their careers and becoming successful musicians of an international standard.  Perhaps make a gift in memory of a loved one, or put up a prize for your favorite instrument.

Donor benefits include, according to donation level, access to videos of  the competitors on our private You tube channel, free day passes to the semi-finals, complimentary tickets to the Finals, attendance at a dinner after the Final to meet the winners, a program credit (if wanted) and an invitation to any concert or event by the winners in San Miguel at a later date.
