With the commemoration of Passover and the Exodus story, the April 2nd Sunday Service will view today’s vast, global, migration phenomenon from the perspective of this beloved familiar story. The Exodus is perhaps the earliest example of today’s various liberation movements that yearn for a life worth living. The role and power of “hope” will be explored in the visions of utopia that shape many of these migrant movements.
The guest speaker will be Jurgen Ahlers, a longtime active member of the Fellowship. He explains, “In our time, liberation theology addresses this yearning and demands that established systems that warrant privilege of the powerful, at the expense of the powerless, radically shift in creative, life-affirming ways—whereby everyone benefits.”
Ahlers is an ordained Presbyterian minister who transitioned mid-career from teaching theology to become a consultant in organizational dynamics. Over the years, he worked with many international firms forging more dynamic, employee-engaged corporate cultures. Ahlers has lived in San Miguel de Allende for the past four years. He currently lives in the Chorro neighborhood. He can be found every morning in nearby Parque Juarez walking his rescue dog, Picasso.
Unitarian Universalism is a liberal faith inviting its community to gather around a set of harmonizing values and principles for living. Our UU Fellowship welcomes people of all ages, races, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identity. Belief in a divinity is not the central issue around which we gather for worship and generous action. Rather, we come together with a belief in community, love, compassion, social justice, reverence for nature, and the spirituality of music, all within the interconnected web of existence.
UUFSMA donates generously to support nonprofit organizations that provide health, educational, and environmental services for underserved communities in the San Miguel region. Please support this work by clicking on the website home page Donate button.
