Intimacy and tradition: El Manantial

By Fernanda Noriega

El Manantial cantina is becoming more and more popular among Sanmiguelenses; and once you get to know it, it will become one of your frequent places to visit. When you walk in you can see a couple of small doors typical of traditional canteens and the worn walls of the facade maintain that essence of yesteryear.  But the modern and showy appearance of the bar and the lighting, will make you spend an exceptional night.

El Manantial offers national and international drinks, cocktails, beer and a select gastronomy, with octopus toast or artichoke being some of the diners’ favorite dishes.

The staff, who has been there for several years, offers customers attention that goes beyond service. There is friendship and relationship with those who attend regularly, which encourages camaraderie which you can breathe in the atmosphere of the canteen. It is common to see that when a customer arrives at the canteen, the waiters already know what they are going to order and even ask you why it took you so many days to return.

El Manantial opens its doors to locals and tourists on Barranca 78, from 7pm-12am. It is a few steps from the Chorro neighborhood, located in the center of the city. It is thanks to its central location that it has turned into an ideal meeting point to early drinks or better yet, to spend a pleasant night in San Miguel.

The bar, despite being somewhat small, has tables at the entrance and seats at the bar, Behind it is another space with dim lighting and a second floor for those who prefer something farther away from the hustle and bustle. The music is pleasant and maintains a decibel level that allows diners to talk and relax, since it is a very quiet place.

If you are looking for a place to spend a pleasant night with your friends or your partner, this is one of your best options in the city.
