Kab’an is located on Hernández Macías 43 and it has one of the most impressive bars in San Miguel. This is so not only in terms of esthetics but also because of its extensive cocktail offerings, which go from classical to their own signature drinks. A wine or a cocktail to accompany food or to share a moment with friends never hurts. At Kab’an, the bar is the best seat in the house because you will be able to watch as they prepare your favorite cocktail. If you’re not sure about what to order, Maggie will know how to guide you.
Maggie came to the bar six years ago. “At the bar, you have to be everything, even a psychologist,” she says laughingly. She says that she learned little by little; first, it was being self-taught and then she took some courses until she finally earned certification as Maestra Romera. “You fall in love with the world,” she says. Whenever a customer doesn’t know what cocktail to order, Maggie takes over. She first asks what kind of drinks they like, including their preferences in notes, such as fruit, floral, or citrus. Then she offers a personalized cocktail based on their tastes. Or two. Or three, why not?
There are also local and national craft beers, coffee, tea infusions, and on the upper floor, you can find a Guanajuato wine cellar. Depending on whether you choose a table, a spot at the bar, or a seat on the terrace, you will feel as though you were in a different place each time. The location you choose offers a specific and different atmosphere. It all goes back to the establishment’s name, Kab’an, which comes from Mayan, meaning earth, but it also refers to change and continuous evolution. And here is a secret: the Kab’an basement is close and accessible. Ask for “Xibalba” and be part of a Speak Easy.
The next time you are looking to spend an afternoon with your friends or your partner, meet at Kab’an.
