In San Miguel de Allende, the neighing and striding can already be heard. Riders from Mexico and other countries are preparing their best routines and dressage, and equestrian sport fans are cheering, applauding, and wanting to have fun.
From April 27 to 30, 2023, another edition of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup will be held at the Otomí Residencial Hípico in San Miguel.
Among the stellar events of this equestrian-sporting event are the Nations Cup on Friday, April 28, in which the teams from Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, the United States, and Mexico will be participating. Each will be represented by four riders who together will seek to obtain one of the two tickets to the final competition in Barcelona, Spain, where a direct pass to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, will be awarded.
«This [the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup] is opening the key for the different [Olympic] circuits. Barcelona gives us a possible ticket to the Olympic Games. This kind of competition gives us a chance to get to the Pan American Championships in an ideal way,» said Nicolás Pizarro Suárez Martínez, Mexican rider, currently ranked among the best 40 in the world, in an exclusive interview for Tvrismo Al Aire.
With an experience in the London 2012 Olympic Games, where he placed 44th in the individual category and ninth in team events, Nicolás Pizarro knows the weight of returning Mexican equestrianism to an Olympic podium where it has been absent since Moscow 1980 when it last climbed three times, on that occasion, with three bronze medals (one individual with Joaquín Pérez de las Heras and two in team events).
«Being an equestrian, I don’t see it as a job but as a passion, so for me it means giving myself, representing Mexico, and being able to give the best of myself to the project and to the whole Cuadra Macaria team, and that is what is most valuable. What I do have is a very nice responsibility and I am sure that I will be able to give back to the country those moments that we need today more than ever,» he added.
Along with Nicolás Pizarro, the Mexican team is made up of Manuel González Dufrane, Eugenio Garza Pérez, and the experienced Federico Fernández Senderos.
Other tests that will be seen in the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup will be the Individual Grand Prix on Sunday, April 30, with riders of more than 20 nationalities; and the National Grand Prix on Saturday, April 29, which will be a competition for beginner riders.
This year will be the second consecutive that San Miguel will host this great equestrian event so a high economic benefit is expected for the municipality since in addition to organizers and participants the arrival of tourists from around the world is expected, who, in addition to attending the competitions, will take the opportunity to enjoy the vast gastronomy and be amazed by the historical, architectural, and social sites that this destination has to offer.
The details were announced at a recent press conference held at a convention center in Mexico City in which, in addition to the rider Nicolás Pizarro, Rafael David Faes and Juan Manuel Cossío Vásquez del Mercado, administrative manager and president of the Mexican Equestrian Federation, respectively, participated as well as Daniela García Nigaglioni and Daniel Rihan Salum, director and president of the Organizing Committee of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup.
