Do you want to go to the theater to have a great time and leave happy? There is an improvisational theatre group in San Miguel called The Improfighters. They are led by director Christian Zaid. On a typical evening, the Improfighters take the stage with no script nor any idea of where the evening’s performance will go.
The actors improvise everything at the spur of the moment. Director Zaid will usually start things off by requesting input from the audience to give context to the actors: identity, place, situations. The audience will shout out random places like an ambulance, the beach, or a cantina. Then, names of people are called out like Shakira or Piqué or an infamous politician, a prehistoric tribe, or even Bad Bunny might be called out to inhabit the stage. The possibilities are endless!
The actors do their best to please the audience and get a laugh while not straying too far from the parameters established by the director. The unpredictable situations that arise on stage can be delightful, shameful, ridiculous, and sometimes cruel and cynical. The Improfighters will make you laugh, and they will make you cry. Their improvisations are always clever and insightful, and they are always delivered with a human touch that makes their performances accessible to everyone. And there is no doubt that each performance is unique and original and will never be seen again.
Great actors from the San Miguel scene make up the cast: Josefina Valentini, Christian Baumgartner, Tuti Lennon, Etienne, Nuria Lara, Tomás Burkey, Cynthia Cardonatto, and David Juárez. Technical assistance is provided by Paloma. They have performances coming up soon. One will be Friday, March 3, and then two others on March 11 and 17. They will take place in the auditorium of the El Sindicato Cultural Center, located at Calle de Recreo 4. Their performances are always sold out so we recommend buying your tickets in advance. At 150 pesos they are a real bargain. See you there.
